How to give constructive feedback

  • ask permission
  • be specific
  • don’t give interpretations but only describe your observation
  • start with ‘I feel’; stay away from moral judgement
  • don’t give advise and don’t trying to persuade the other person


How to receive feedback

  • listen actively to who ever is giving you feedback
  • focus on understanding the feedback instead of reacting or defending yourself
  • ask questions about the feedback so that the feedback becomes as specific as possible
  • ask the person who’s giving you feedback what he felt was effective and what wasn’t
  • don’t turn feedback into a debate, accept the feedback for what it’s worth
